Thomas received his grade schooling in a two room school house in Georgetown before the school was consolidated with West Point High school where he finished the eighth grade and started into the ninth grade before quitting school at the age of fifteen and starting to work to help his family.
He spent his younger years working in the fruit harvest in the northern States of Indiana, Michigan and Illinois until about 1954 when the family moved to Florida where he worked in such things as Kuick Check Grocery stores, Tug boats as a deck hand and a life guard in a local swimming pool.
In 1955 after his Mother became ill the family moved back to Arkansas. In early 1955 Thomas drove his sister-in-law out to Los Angeles only to be gone a short time, he was offered a job in Culver City Ca. working as a Maintenance Machinist and spent only one year at this job before leaving to Rockford Ill. with his two brothers and going to work for National Lock Co.
With his oldest brother's death in June of 1956. Thomas only stayed in Rockford until his friend was called into the Army in February of 1957, and he went with him back to Arkansas to spend some time with his mother, but he was unable to find work in Arkansas and called his former boss out in Culver City and asked if there was a place for him to come back to work and was told yes.
Thomas went back to California not knowing this would be his home for the next 35 years, He remained with his job with Waters Mfg. Co for the next nine years before moving own to Merrit Products as their shop Forman for 9 years.
In 1966 Thomas went to work for TRW Space & Technology Systems, and was honored to work on many highly classified projects such as a lot of the Pioneer space ships, the Space Station, Spy Satellites and many other projects while working for TRW's facilities & Maintenance where he received numerous awards and accommodations.
Thomas went on to retire in 1992 at the age of 55 and moved to Arizona, he spent twenty seven years as one of TRW's most valued senior supervisors and technician in his trade.
